The Book Industry Charitable Foundation celebrates 30 years of being the essential safety net for book and comic store employees, owners, and their stores. The 30th Anniversary Gala will take place in May at Prince George Ballroom in New York City. Dominique Raccah, publisher and CEO of Sourcebooks, is our honorary gala chair. The evening will also feature emmcee Emma Straub. Industry leaders, authors, book and comic store employees, and the Binc Foundation’s board of directors welcome you to join this distinguished group of passionate supporters to celebrate our history and prepare for the future.

Dominique Raccah, publisher and CEO of Sourcebooks
Dominique Raccah is the visionary Publisher and CEO of Sourcebooks, which she founded from her home in 1987. She has transformed Sourcebooks into a leading book publishing house renowned for its author-centric approach to innovation.
Publishing bestsellers in everything from teen thrillers, literary fiction, and romance to children’s books, college guides, journals, and mysteries, Sourcebooks is dedicated to changing lives through books.

Emma Straub, Author and Bookstore Owner
Emma Straub is the New York Times-bestselling author of seven books for adults: the novels This Time Tomorrow, All Adults Here, The Vacationers, Modern Lovers, Laura Lamont’s Life in Pictures, American Fantasy and the short story collection Other People We Married. She is also the author of three picture books and a Guggenheim Foundation Fellow. Emma and her husband own Books Are Magic, an independent bookstore in Brooklyn, New York.

Current Binc Ambassador: Amor Towles
Having worked as an investment professional for over 20 years, Amor Towles now devotes himself full time to writing. His novels Rules of Civility, A Gentleman in Moscow, and The Lincoln Highway, and his collection of shorter fiction Table for Two have all been New York Times bestsellers, have collectively sold more than eight million copies, and have been translated into more than forty languages. Towles wrote the introduction to Scribner’s 75th anniversary edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is the Night , the Penguin Classics edition of Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, and the Vintage Crime edition of Dashiell Hammett’s The Dain Curse.
Former Binc Ambassador: Ann Patchett
Ann Patchett is the author of nine novels, The Patron Saint of Liars, Taft, The Magician’s Assistant, Bel Canto, Run, State of Wonder, Commonwealth, The Dutch House, and Tom Lake. She was the editor of Best American Short Stories, 2006, and has written four books of nonfiction and collaborated with illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser on three children’s books. The Dutch House was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and her books have been both New York Times Notable Books and New York Times bestsellers. Her work has been translated into more than thirty languages. In 2011, she opened Parnassus Books in Nashville, Tennessee, with her business partner Karen Hayes. She has since become a spokesperson for independent booksellers.

We’re excited to announce that 30% of the net proceeds from the gala will be used to build an endowment for the booksellers’ safety net, allowing Binc to continue providing life-changing support for store owners and employees at a time when their work has become increasingly challenging. Your support will ensure the foundation’s long-term success, with a steady stream of income.
