Judey Kalchik
Program Manager | Binc Foundation
Judey started her bookselling career in 1987 as a part-time bookseller at Waldenbooks in West Mifflin, PA. For the next 24 years, she held many jobs with Waldenbooks and Borders including events coordinator, training store manager, and senior manager of store operations. After Borders, she sharpened her operations and program management skills, which came in useful as a Binc volunteer. She has stayed connected to books and literacy through her Facebook page Things I Know About Bookselling and the Little Free Library her husband, Ken, built and placed in front of their home in Ann Arbor, MI.
Judey believes local bookstores and comic shops are essential to a healthy community. She has long believed that Binc’s core program of financial assistance for bookstore and comic shops owners, and their employees, is part of the solution to ensuring bookstores and comic shops survive and thrive.
In addition to reading, she is a blogger and a creator on WordPress, Medium, and Vocal writing platforms. In her spare time, she enjoys crafting, cooking, and officiating weddings.
